Nişanyan mentions Arabic "حالوم" (transliteration: ḥālūm/ḥallām) which means "soft and fresh cheese" as the original word that the Tr language borrowed. That would maybe explain the double L? Barishan (συζήτηση) 20:38, 7 Ιουλίου 2020 (UTC)Απάντηση

☏ Barishan, normally I do not do etymologies: I only copy some info from specific dictionaries. I look at the english en:halloumi, and things get evern more confusing. Because the double lls (ok, at arabic -need to be marked with damma-) ... I do not see them there, inspite of the references which seem nice. So: I add {ety+} Perhaps in the future, someone will have a clearer total etymology. ‑‑Sarri.greek  | 20:44, 7 Ιουλίου 2020 (UTC)Απάντηση
