different types of compounds επεξεργασία

Hey @FocalPoint and @Sarri.greek!

I’m just looking for your opinion here. In English, we have compound words, frequently referred to as simply “compounds”. There are 3 types of compounds: open compound, closed compound, and hyphenated compound.

An open compound has a space between the two words like “ice cream”, a hyphenated compound has hyphens between the words like “up-to-date” and “long-term”, and closed compounds have no space or hyphen like “airplane”, “notebook” or “waterfall”.

My question is: how do you differentiate between these in Greek? From my experience on this website, it looks like you have πολυλεκτικός όρος for “open compounds” (the words with spaces in between them) and σύνθετα for “closed compounds” (the words with nothing between them). What do you think a hyphenated compound would be? I’m thinking it’s also a σύνθετο but I wanted to check with you all. Also, do the translations I have for open and closed compound seem right too?

As always, thanks for your help! Stephilippou (συζήτηση) 02:40, 19 Ιανουαρίου 2024 (UTC)Απάντηση
