: Dentonius, hello! I thought we could find a better example or quotation. Also, the translation was not in correct greek. Sorry that I did not explain. ‑‑Sarri.greek ♫ | 11:32, 11 Μαρτίου 2021 (UTC)
:: How would you have translated it into Greek? — Dentonius 12:12, 11 Μαρτίου 2021 (UTC)

::: Dentonius I am not sure what 'odd' means here. If 'out of ordinary norm' = μυστήριος or just περίεργος άνθρωπος If 'weird guy' = περίεργος τύπος. When the english texts has 'man' we do not translate it as άντρας because the adjective already shows the gender. Sometimes we omit, others we use άνθρωπος, others we use άντρας. Stylistic reasons. Ι would not choose αλλόκοτος for someone in a party = weird in an out of this world manner, one whom we do not comprehend.
::: Shock, in this example does not mean, συγκλονίζω, which is used in very different contexts e.g. for a murder, for a historical event like a revolution, a bloody coup which literally shakes (κλονίζω).
::: Sorry, my english is not the english of a bilingual. These are subtle differences, sometimes not obvious even to native speakers. Every exmample (especially of foreign lang, as English in el.wikt, should show the most characteristic use. like court etiquette blah blah bow, or courtesy, or table manner etiquette.. blah blah three forks and knives, things like that. ‑‑Sarri.greek ♫ |
