This image from the GOES-13 satellite shows a very strong cold front moving through the eastern U.S. today, April 5, 2011. This visible image was captured at 1431 UTC (10:31 a.m. EDT). The cold front triggered severe thunderstorms (the line of brightest white are the highest thunderstorms, and the strongest storms) and showers and thunderstorms from the Mid-Atlantic to the southeastern U.S. today. The clearing behind the front indicates high pressure building in that will generate gusty winds along the east coast from Boston, Mass. to Orlando, Fla. GOES-13 is operated by NOAA, and images and animations are created by the NASA GOES Project at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md.
